3 days 2 night-LANGKAWI!!!

23.7.09-25.7.09

Langkawi Island in the northern tip of the Peninsular Malaysia off the coast of Kedah need no introduction as it is one of the most popular island in Malaysia.

Cable Car
Mat Cincang Mountain

The Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok, is the entrance for the cable-car ride, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. Entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, visitors make their payment at a counter before stepping onto an escalator which brings them to the cable-car pedestal.

Once in, the cable-car ascends; you’ll begin to notice the temperature dropping and a windy breeze begin flowing into the cabin through ventilation slits at the top. As it gets cooler, the landscape below begins to appear smaller, and at after climbing at a 42° angle for a few hundred feet, you can start snapping pictures of the rainforest below. Look out at the side for a view of the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, which cascades down a grey rock face.

After around 600 metres, the cable car reaches the first station, where you disembark to either; take another cable car up to the peak, or lull around the observatory deck and admire the magnificent surroundings. Most will not spend too long here, as the view from the peak is even more amazing. After a short queue, you can grab another cable car and ride up another wire cable which doesn’t rise too sharply, though the initial jolt of the car leaving the second station can feel quite unnerving.

As the car settles to a decent speed after the brief spurt from the station, passengers will be treated to an even higher view of the rainforest and hills below. The car here is at its coolest and in too short a time, you’ll reach the final station which is where most of the excitement is. Passengers leaving the cab will be greeted by a menagerie of stalls selling souvenirs, toys, snacks and drinks.

You’ll want to climb a set of staircases that cuts through a thin forest to reach the observatory deck above. Once on the top, you can finally enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding horizon; the island’s landscape, skyline and seas beyond. At the side is a steel bridge suspended across Mount Mat Cincang and a neighbouring mountain. Walking across this bridge is a fantastic experience and offers a different viewpoint of the island and sea towards the north.

After immersing yourself in the views, it’ll be time to go, and the entire process of cable-car ascent is repeated in a descending route. Along the way, you can pick up some souvenirs at the final or base station before carrying your adventures elsewhere in the magnificent island of Langkawi.

Low Fertility Rates in Several Developed Countries

Nowadays, developed countries gives incentives to their people in order to increase the birth rates to balance its increasing demands. Countries from Asia Pacific such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and France is encouraged all their people to increase the birth rates. In developed countries such as Austria, Singapore, Germany, Australia and France, their government here set up several incentives to reverse fertility rates.

In Austria, the fertility rate is about 1.5 in 2006 and 1.3 in 2007. This shows that the fertility rate in Austria is decreased from year 2006 to 2007. In order to reverse the falling fertility rates, their government gives incentives to their lower earning mother which gets £436 until the child is about three years old.

The second incentive was to give bonuses to mother who had just given birth. In Singapore, a mother who had just given birth will receive a fully-paid in three months leaves. To show its need to increase the birth rates in the country, the Singapore government also gives tax debates to families who have two or more children. The government will also assist in saving healthcare and children educations for the mother.

From the graph, there are no changes in the fertility rate in Germany in between year 2006 and 2007. The Germany government gives compensation to a big family. About 67% wages compensation will be given for a year to parents who have a big family. The third incentive is in Australia. The country gives away $4000 of its dollars to family for each birth of the baby. These in return have given the increase in birth rate in Australia.

The fertility in France for year 2006 is about 1.8 whereas for year 2007 the fertility rate is about 2.0. These show some or a little increase in fertility rate in France. The increase is not so good. In order to increase the fertility rate, France government gives a year’s monthly allowance of 750 francs for the third child.

Various countries with different incentives for their people to reverse falling fertility rates. Developed countries such as Austria, Singapore, Germany, Australia and France support their people to have a large number of family members.

My two weeks experience in KMK

11th May is the first day I came to Kedah Matriculation College. I came to this matriculation college to futher my studies. 11th May is the Registration day for all the new student to enter Kedah Matriculation College. There are more than two thousand student who are been chosen to enter this college. Ten percent of all student are from non-Bumiputra which is Chinese, Indian and others races. I feel so happy and thanked to god because I among the auspicious student who are been choosen to enter KMK. To me, KMK is a beautiful place with a lot of beautiful surroundings. KMK also has many good facilities such as Lecturer Hall, Library, ATM Machine, Astaka, Pos Mini, Photostat Centre, Tutorial Room and many more.

With all the well-developed facilities will gave the student, lecturer and staff more comfortable and convenience live or learning. I am proud to be one of the KMK student because every year it produce a lot of excellent student. Furthermore, this year recorded more than two hundred student who get four flat’s. This is my first experience to stay in a hostel in which I have to be more independent person. Before this, I have been stayed in a hostel but only for a week because I participate in Softball competition. To be live in hostel is good for us because it teaches us to be independent and can give my full focus to studies.

I meet many new friends from various state such as Alor Star, Kangar, Kota Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Johor Bahru, Ipoh and many more state. They are all very nice to me and a kind of kind-hearted person. I also learn various dialects from them. I also meet my old friends that I haven seen for a long time. We have to make friends with others because it is important to seek for a help in academic or daily life.
